Looking for ways to reduce food waste? The Arroyo students got you covered! Students recently took part in a food waste reduction cooking workshop led by ActiveSGV where they learned proper waste management techniques such as planning, food preservation, dehydration and more. But that’s not all! Students also discovered how to transform food scraps from their garden into delicious vegetables broth, which they used as a base for a mouth-watering hot and sour soup.

Rosemead High School Best of Thymes Garden
Students at Rosemead’s Best of Thymes Garden recently embarked on an exciting project where they learned how to harness the power of herbs to create their own infused oils. Using fresh herbs like rosemary, mint, and lavender, students got to work processing herbs to extract their natural oils. With these oils in hand, they then went on to create candles that were perfect for the wet and cozy weather months.

La Madera Community Garden
Active SGV has been hosting monthly nutrition classes at La Madera Community Garden every 1st Sunday of the Month at 10:30-11:00am. Topics this month included healthy meal planning and If you are interested. please visit us the first Sunday of every month at 3805 La Madera Ave, El Monte, CA 91732.

Earth Day 2023 Arroyo Farm Lab
A huge shout out to all our amazing volunteers who joined us on our Earth Day volunteer day! We were blown away by the dedication and hard work as you pitched in to help with much-needed beautification efforts. From cleaning our native basin meadow to transplanting veggies and even painting signage using upcycled materials, you all went above and beyond to make a difference.
We would like to extend a special thanks to USGBC (U.S Green Building Council) and LA Works for helping to make this event possible!

Welcome to the Team Angela
As of May 2023, Eco Urban Gardens welcomes Angela Wan to the team as a Program Specialist. Angela has a background in nursing, health care operations, and environmental sustainability. She previously worked at City of Hope where she and a team created a therapeutic teaching garden at the Duarte medical center. Angela and Alan previously worked together in the first years of that garden, which is almost 5 years ago. Her new role at Eco Urban Gardens will be to support grant writing, community outreach education and program resource development. We’re so glad to have her join us!
