Farm to School Program Updates

The Farm Lab at Arroyo High School

In partnership with EMUHSD Nutrition Services, Eco Urban Gardens gave away 300 bags of organic Herbes de Provence, rosemary, lemongrass, lemons, mint and sugarcane to community members the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Each bag included the above produce plus recipes for using herbs in holiday cooking.

Best of Thymes Garden At Rosemead High School

The Orchard at Mountain View High School During Distance Learning Eco Urban Gardens is working to install a new bubbler irrigation system. This will save time previously spent on hand watering when students are able to return to campus. We have also installed 3 additional raised beds and are seeding winter crops in the Culinary Arts garden. As part of the City of Hope Healthy Living grant, we have been distributing seasonal farm boxes to the community members who fill out a short survey. If you are interested in picking up a farm box please email us here!

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic Eco Urban Gardens has harvested and distributed over 500 pounds of organic fruit from the Organic Orchard at Mountain View High School. Some of the largest harvests were peaches, pears, guavas, figs and apples. During the spring and summer of 2021, we will focus on fixing irrigation issues and supporting long term tree health.

Community Partners

La Madera Community Garden

All 37 of the community garden plots at La Madera are being cultivated! Many people are growing winter crops like lettuce, kale, cabbage, fava beans, and leeks. During these times, it’s nice to come to the garden and see new and familiar faces, while maintaining our physical distance. Families can support their health by cultivating and harvesting from their ten by ten foot plots.

Farm Pantry at Cyber Yogurt

Moringa oleifera is used world wide as a dietary supplement as it is high in iron, riboflavin, vitamin C, vitamin A and vitamin B6. Regularly consuming Moringa may help manage blood sugar, lower cholesterol and reduce inflammation. Seeds can be taken like a vitamin twice a day and leaves can be consumed raw, sautéed or powdered in a hot beverage or smoothie. We also offer three kinds of herbal tea (lemon lavender, lung health, immunity-boosting) and organic seasoning for a protein of your choice.
